Obituary
After a life fully lived, full of love and laughter, friends and family, Harold Gene Willard, 82, of Myersville, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born at home in Foxville on June 6, 1934, he was the eldest son of the late Ralph and Ruth Lewis Willard. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Doris Grable Willard, son, Alan Willard, daughter, Paula Willard-Spiegel, her husband Michael, and step-grandchildren Dakota, Justin, and Cameron. He also leaves behind dear friends, cousin Leon Hays and brother-in-law William Hubbard, sisters Charlotte Willard Smith and Dottie Willard, brother Donald Willard, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by a brother, Larry Willard, and nephew Jesse Hubbard. Harold attended Middletown High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army in the mid-1950s. He proudly served as military policeman at Fort Hood, TX, and loved to regale with stories of his military service. Returning to Maryland, he worked as a talented carpenter for over forty years. A life member of the South Mountain Rod & Gun Club, Harold enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an accomplished guitar player and avid gardener, known for his beautiful flowers and bountiful garden. He will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 11, from 7 pm until 9 pm at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Avenue, Smithsburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, April 12, at the funeral home, with interment following at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick.
