My dear Long family--What a beautiful testament to a kind and gentle man. I have many fond memories of Uncle Cap and his whole crew. I was lucky enough to spend time in the summers for a few years with them at Springfield Farm. He and Aunt Peg were gracious enough to take in the O'Connor family from Detroit. If not for their generosity, I wouldn't know these cousins much at all. I am forever grateful. And there are many other cousins that Aunt Peg and Uncle Cap took in over the years (Jerry and Debbie, Keith and Brian...). They were simply gracious to let us all be a part of their farm life.
I remember throwing bales of hay on machinery, gathering eggs, watching chickens meet their demise for our dinner, being amazed at what eggs looked like straight out of the chicken, in awe of chickens running in circles after their heads were separated from their bodies, (I saw one run in circles for at least a minute), getting sprayed with fresh milk as we walked past him in the milking barn, trips down the road for ice cream, just always feeling calm and safe and loved with him. His smile was a twinkle. His laugh contagious.
He was loved by all who crossed his path. He was just good. May he rest in Heavenly peace. May he have already been reunited with those good people that have passed before him. May we all be thankful that we got to be part of this family. Only good memories...
