In Loving Memory of Gloria Jean Thompson nee McGaha
Gloria Jean Thompson, born on June 16, 1941, to the late Ethel McGaha Lowe, peacefully departed from this world on September 12, 2023. She was the loving wife of the late Henry Clay Thompson, who preceded her in death on June 5, 1985. Gloria's life was marked by dedication, warmth, and a zest for living that endeared her to those who knew her best.
Gloria was a proud graduate of Frederick High School, a milestone she achieved with the Class of 1959. Her commitment to her work was unwavering, and she held positions at several notable establishments throughout her career. Gloria spent five years at F.W. Woolworth, followed by an impressive fifteen-year tenure at Bonton. Her career journey continued with a rewarding fourteen and a half years at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, where she ultimately retired in 2004.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Gloria was a woman of many passions. She found joy in dancing, with a particular fondness for line dancing. She had a great love of music where she and her friends even followed them from state to state. Gloria was also known to be in attendance at any firehouse dinner being held, regardless of the location. She was an avid reader, enjoyed the challenges of word search puzzles, as well as bingo and cherished her time by the shores of Myrtle Beach. Gloria's vibrant spirit illuminated every room she entered.
Gloria is survived by her beloved daughter, Holly Horner, and Holly's husband, Richard, both of Hagerstown, MD. She found lifelong love and companionship in Steve, who shared in her joys and sorrows. Gloria is also survived by her sister, Rosalie Goodsell of Lewistown, as well as her niece, Dawn McDowell, and Dawn's husband, John. Their children, Cassie Salameh and her husband, Ramsay, and Eric McDowell, all of Frederick, MD, were cherished by Gloria. She leaves behind her nephew, John, and his wife, Darlene, of Walkersville, and their great great-nephew, Lucas. Among Gloria's cherished companions was her beloved chihuahua, Angel and her beloved cat Taffy, who held a special place in her heart.
Gloria is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Clay Thompson, her mother, Ethel, her grandmother, Mary E. McGaha, and her brother-in-law, Russell Goodsell. Though they have passed on, their memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved them.
