Mr. Gilmore Wayne House's Obituary
Mr. Gilmore Wayne House, 81, of Frederick, passed away peacefully at home on June 30, 2023. He was the loving husband of Joan Marie Watkins, whom he married on June 29, 1985.
Born April 30, 1942, Gil was the son of the late Gilmore B. and Virginia “Honey” House. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960-1964 and worked as an electronics engineer with Comsat, one of the pioneering companies in satellite communications. Mr. House was interested in local history and volunteered with the Frederick Historical Society (now called Heritage Frederick). Many remember him sharing local history on the trolley in Frederick. He was also an active volunteer with the Frederick County Commission on Disabilities, and was instrumental in making improvements to the physical environment for disabled people.
In addition to his loving wife, Joan, Gil is survived by four children, Judy Schendledecker, Jeff House, Joy Schendledecker, and Susan House Lewis; ten grandchildren, Theresa, Kimberly, Sierra, Alex, Griffin, Enn, Leila, Addyson, Jacob, and Ethan; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy House Hall.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Rd., Ijamsville, MD 21754 on Saturday, July 8, at 10:00 AM. The Rite of Committal will take place at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of Gil’s favorite organizations, the Urbana Food Bank (greaterurbanaareafoodbank.org), the Buddy Project (thebuddyproject.org), or the Haiti Committee at St. Ignatius Church (e-stignatius.org).
