Eugene Landrum, 90, of Frederick, MD passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from a brief battle with lung cancer. Gene was born on December 12, 1927 in Gates, TN and was raised on a family farm in Franklin, KY. After marrying Donna Shain on March 23, 1958, he moved to Vandalia, IL where they lived for 48 years. Gene was an employee of the Vandalia Correctional Center for 27 years, a life member of Post #95 of the American Legion, a loyal University of Kentucky basketball fan, a great dad, and a loving grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents W.B. and Bessie Landrum, seven of his nine siblings, and his wife, Donna. He is survived by his son Joseph, daughter Julia and son-in-law Matthew Staden, and grandchildren Katherine Staden and Andrew Staden. Visitation will be held at Keeney & Basford Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13th, followed by 11:00 a.m. services. Internment will immediately follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702, or the charity of your choice. A paragraph cannot hold an entire life's work or worth, but the memories left from that well-lived life serve as a way for those left behind to honor the one that we lost. Gene will be honored for years to come.
