Emogene H. Michael's Obituary
Emogene H. Michael, 97, of Hagerstown and formerly of Lewistown, MD died on Monday, July 28, 2025. She and her twin sister, Ethelene Eaton, were born on March 6, 1928.
She was the wife of the late Charles (Sam) Michael with whom she shared 71 years of marriage. Together they raised three daughters: Carole Zimmerman (Greg), Gayle Frushour (Charles), and Susan O’Neill. Additionally, she is survived by her grandsons (Charlie, Jamie, Jason, Justin Frushour and Mike Metz), 12 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, as well as two step-grandchildren, Scott and Jeff Zimmerman and their families. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law Shane O’Neill, granddaughter Krystal O’Neill, parents (Viola and Paul Harper), and her brothers and sisters: Walter Harper, Wilhelmina (Dolly) Stone, Louise Boyer, Ethelene Eaton, Erma Schultz, Shirley McNell, and Robert Harper.
Emogene graduated from Frederick High School and was a longtime member of the Lewistown United Methodist Church where she enjoyed helping with the pot pie dinners. She was a loyal supporter of the Lewistown District Volunteer Fire Department where she was known as ‘the gravy lady’. She enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her children and two of her grandchildren, Mike Metz and Krystal O’Neill, as well as great-grandson Kyle Shorb. She loved flowers and helped her husband with the family garden, spending many hours canning and freezing produce they grew together. She loved to play cards, especially pinochle with her family.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 1 at Resthaven Funeral Home, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway, Frederick. Pastor Scott Clawson of the New Market United Methodist Church will officiate. Following internment, a time of fellowship will be held at Mountain Gate Family Restaurant, Thurmont.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials in Emogene’s name be made to Daybreak Adult Day Services, 7819 Rocky Springs Road, Frederick, MD 21702.
