Obituary
Mr. Elwood Franklin Wineholt, 90, of Brunswick, Maryland, died on October 10, 2018 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Grace L. Wineholt, who died June 21, 2001 after 39 years of marriage. Born January 27, 1928 in Brunswick, Elwood was the son of the late George E. and Eugenia (Evans) Wineholt. He attended Brunswick Elementary and High Schools, graduating June 1945. Elwood was an Eagle Scout, and served as Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 269 before being inducted into the U.S. Army in 1950. Assigned to the 631st Armored Field Artillery, he served in the Occupation of Germany from 1951-52. After release from active duty, Ellwood continued his military service in the Army Reserves and received his Bachelor's degree in Forestry from Montana State University in 1960. He took a position with the U.S. Forest Service and later with the National Park Service for the rest of his civilian career. He retired from the Army Reserves on January 27, 1988 after 37 years of service. Elwood was also the Post Commander (four times) and Frederick County Council Commander (three times) of American Legion Post #96, as well as Seargent-at-Arms for three months for American Legion, Department of Maryland. He was also a City Councilman for Brunswick from 1988 - 1992. Elwood is survived by his caregiver, Belinda Mann, his granddaughter, Agnes Spickler, and several other relatives. Visitation will be held from 7 - 9 PM on Sunday, October 14th at the Resthaven Funeral Home, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Hwy. (U.S. Route 15 N) in Frederick, where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 15th. Interment will follow in the Veterans Garden of Honor I at Resthaven.
