Elva Cleo Johnson's Obituary
Obituary
Elva Cleo Johnson, 72 years old, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 14th, 2016. Cleo was a New Year's Baby born in Scott County, Virginia on January 1st, 1944. She was the beloved and cherished wife of Leland William Johnson. Cleo was also survived by her sons Carl and wife Loretta, Chester and Anthony Johnson; 10 Grandchildren; 5 Great Grandchildren; her siblings, Juanita Smith, Kenneth Barnette, Edith Riley, and Verlin Barnette. Cleo was preceded in death by her parents Stallard and Grace Barnette; son Leland Johnson Jr; daughter Amonica Griffith; grandchildren Stallard Robert Johnson and Douglas Griffith; and her brother Eugene Barnette. Cleo was a testimony of Gods strength, love and peace. No matter the hardships or circumstances life placed in her path; Cleo would wake up every morning with hands raised in Praise of Jesus allowing him to fuel her heart with love and peace. Cleo was not one to bottle that love up, she made sure to over flow her cup, blessing everyone she had contact with. There were no strangers in her world only children of God or people to share his word with. Cleo's abundance of faith in prayer was unwavering and those prayers continue with her as she enters the throne room. Cleo's friends often described her as a kind cherished soul. Her words of encouragement to others was never ending. She was known to take in strangers who fell on unfortunate circumstances, providing them with food and roof over their heads, until they were back on their feet. She had many personal enjoyments in life. Everyone knows, if she didn't answer the phone, it's because she was shopping, but the saying, 'shop till you drop,' never applied to Cleo; her enthusiasm kept her going. Her flower beds were always lush and vibrant. Cleo loved beautiful flowers and saw them as Gods work of art. She loved her gardens ensuring they produced an abundance of vegetables to keep her busy canning and pickling for hours. Nothing brought a bigger smile to her face than watching family and friends eat in fellowship at her home. Fishing trips on the boat with her husband, Leland and family often filled her Summer's at the bay or Virginian rivers. Cleo regularly enjoyed hard-work around the home, outdoors and mowing grass was a favorite past-time. Cleo attended Boonsboro Family Worship Center in Boonsboro, MD.
