Ellen Wright's Obituary
Ellen Gertrude Mowry Wright passed away on March 13, 2026 in Frederick, MD. She was born on May 1, 1934, in Washington, D.C. to Howard Mowry and Esther Day. She was lovingly known as “Nonnie.”
Ellen was predeceased by her husband, James Wright; her son, Timothy James Wright; and her sister, Mary Wright. She is survived by daughters, Barbara Crown (Mike) and Kathleen Heffner (Arthur); daughter‑in‑law, JoAnn; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kevin, Daniel, Tyler, Ashley, Blake, Zachary and Joshua; five great‑grandchildren, Chase, Khloe, Emma, Lucie and Clara; and sisters Barbara Taylor, Sally Moore, and Fran Fairbrother.
A graduate of Surrattsville High School, Ellen worked in payroll for the U.S. Navy, where she met James. They married on April 11, 1958. She dedicated many years to raising her children, supporting their activities, and serving as a Girl Scout Leader. She later worked for the NIH and as a pediatric receptionist.
Ellen enjoyed traveling across the U.S. and abroad, was active in the Foothill Campers, Montgomery Cedarettes, and the Red Hat Ladies, and proudly volunteered for ten years at a hospital in Fort Myers, Florida. She loved line dancing, bingo, cards, and time spent with friends and family.
She will be remembered for her strength, independence, warm heart, and deep love for her family.
