Edward Marshall Ballew's Obituary
Born April 14, 1956, in Frederick, Maryland. Ed was the son of Mary Ballew (John Stup) and the late Lee Ballew. Ed is survived by his wife of 43 years Peggy Koontz Ballew, son Joshua Ballew and daughter Kathleen Ballew Snyder. Ed was a devoted husband and father. He left this life on November 14, 2023, after a brief battle against cancer.
He is also survived by sister Alvera Ballew (Matt Young); half-sisters Carol Hinzman (Bill) and Margaret Ballew; brother-in-law Charles Zang Ill, nephews Charles Zang IV (Cindy), Michael Zang, David Young (Aimee), Charles V, Cort and Colton Zang; nieces Eve Bakalyar, Anne Farschon, Sharon Cowger, Lily Young, Courtney and Caitlyn Zang; uncle Jerry Beall (Cheryl); aunts Eileen Wolfe (Dick) and Jane Beall and many cousins, great nephews and great nieces.
Ed was predeceased by father- and mother-in-law Vernon and Dorothy Koontz; sister-in-law Donna Zang; son-in-law Brenden Snyder; uncles Raymond (Marie) and Dallas Beall; aunt Della Doolin (Gideon); uncles Elmer, Woodrow and Ed Ballew.
Ed and Peggy met while traveling to work at the U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration in Washington, D.C. Ed worked as a carpenter, including working for Ryan Homes/NVR in Thurmont. He then began working for Frederick County Public Schools as a custodian, assistant lead, then lead custodian at Glade Elementary, Linganore High, Governor Thomas Johnson High, Monocacy Elementary and retiring from New Midway Elementary.
Ed attended the Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ in Rocky Ridge. He taught Sunday School, became Assistant Superintendent and, most recently, Sunday School Superintendent. He was a faithful worker at the festivals at the Mt. Tabor Park, dipping ice cream.
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 20, 2023, from 5pm – 7pm at Resthaven Funeral Home & Crematory Inc, 9501B Catoctin Mtn Hwy, Frederick, MD 21701. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 10 am at Resthaven Funeral Home & Crematory Inc, with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. The family would like to extend an invitation back to Resthaven Funeral Home & Crematory Inc, to share in food and fellowship, sharing cherished memories of Ed and the impact he had in our lives.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and other medical staff, including food service and maintenance staff, who tended to Ed. He had great care at the Frederick Health Hospital and the Kline Hospice House. Many thanks to their family, church family and special friends who supported them-Jane and Dave Savage and Debbie and Barry Burrier, who answered calls for help at any time of the day or night. Ed appreciated all the cards and visits he received.
Ed's wish was that people feel free to wear what they want to his service.
