Obituary
Dr. Dwight R. Tousignaut passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on March 18, 2018, in Frederick, MD. Born in Ironwood, MI, on December 4, 1933, he was the son of the late James and Lucille Tousignaut. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Marilu Tousignaut. In 1950 he joined the Air Force serving in Germany during the Korean War. After discharge he attended the University of Michigan earning a BS in Hospital Pharmacy in 1959. While at UofM he participated in NCAA Football and Wrestling. In 1961 Dwight served a residency- internship and graduated from University of California, San Francisco with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. In 1964, he received the Fulbright Lecture Award where he developed and taught a graduate program in Hospital Pharmacy at the University of Cairo, Cairo, Egypt. Upon returning to the United States, he accepted a position with the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists in Bethesda, MD. There he was VP of Drug Information Systems and editor of International Pharmaceutical Abstracts. He was a consultant to the National Library of Medicine. He was active in the Federation Internationale Pharmaceutique. He was past president of the Drug Information Association and was recognized in American Men of Science. He retired from ASHP in 2001. In 2004 he received the Donald E. Franke Medal for work advancing international Pharmacy practice. He was a longtime member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frederick, MD where he served on the church council and as Sunday School Superintendent. He raised rare breeds of beef cattle including Scotch Highland and American Bison. He is also survived by one son, Thom Tousignaut and wife Ruth of Middletown, MD. Two daughters, Denise Tousignaut and husband Phillip of Harpers Ferry, WV, Tracy Tousignaut Reed and husband Brian of Smithsburg, MD. Five grandchildren, Jacob Tousignaut (wife Debbie), Jennifer Tousignaut McDonnal (husband Chris), Michael Tousignaut (wife Olivia), Lewis Reed and Evan Dwight Reed. Four great-grandchildren Caleb, Gabriel, Hannah and Ian Tousignaut-born March 18, 2018. He is remembered by close friends, Ed and Erlyne Schmidbauer of Willits, California and Rick and Linda Harrison Parsons of Scottsdale, Arizona. A memorial service will be held at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 33 Church St., Frederick, MD. Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11:00 am. A Celebration of Life reception will follow.
