Obituary
Douglas Alan Smith, 63, of Frederick, passed away on October 8, 2015 at Frederick Memorial Hospital due to complication of an abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture. He was the husband of Cheryl Smith, his wife of 34 years. Born in Jamestown, NE, he was the son of the late Paul D Smith, Jr. and the late Muriel Bastian and stepson of the late Lawrence Bastian. Doug enlisted in the U. S. navy at the age of 17 and served as a torpedoman aboard attack submarines, including the USS John Marshall. He was medically discharged in 1984, having attained the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class. Doug eventually went on to own a local website development company, where he developed websites for local businesses, charity organizations, and U. S. and International government agencies. In addition to his loving wife, Doug is survived by two daughters, Amber Smith Wilburn & husband Paul and Allison Smith Adam & husband Jonathon, s son Steven Caldwell & wife Jessica; a sister, Denise Barber & husband Ron; three grandchildren, Sloane Adam, Kieran Adam, and Joshua Caldwell; and nephews Tony Trass and Eric Trass. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 14th at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Hwy., Frederick, MD where funeral service will commence at 2:00 PM. Interment with military honors will follow at the Veterans Garden of Honor at Resthaven, In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the National MS Society, P.O.
