Mundschenk, Douglas P.'s Obituary
Douglas (Doug) Mundschenk, age 79, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly on April 17, 2025.
Doug was born on July 9, 1945, in Utica, N.Y., to Harley P. Mundschenk and Ruth Corrigan Mundschenk. He graduated from New York Mills High School in 1964. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy.
He married his high school sweetheart, Joanna Langlotz Mundschenk, on May 25, 1968. Doug began working with Tracor in May 1976 with the SSBN Sonar Group and later transitioned to the Submarine Engineering Department. He managed the largest group of programs in the department and led a support staff of 55. He received the Best Boss Award and the Presidential Upstanding Taxpayer Award for willingly giving to the U.S. government for over 40 years. He retired from the Dell Corporation in 2013.
He loved the Redskins, enjoyed deep-sea fishing, was an avid gardener, and cherished time spent on his boat. Doug was a longtime Boy Scout leader for Troop 1070 in Walkersville, Md. He was a member of the Morning Breakfast Club at McDonald’s University and also belonged to the Elks in Frederick.
Doug is survived by his wife, Joanna. He is also survived by his beloved daughters: Renee Walchuck (Richard Walchuck), Marcia Gildar (Justin Gildar), and Amy Hubble (Bill Hubble). He leaves behind seven wonderful grandchildren: Matthew Walchuck, Rachel Walchuck, Ryan Walchuck, Ethan Hubble, Ava Hubble, Sam Gildar, and Jacob Walker. Also surviving are his sisters, Patricia Mundschenk and Elizabeth Mundschenk, both of N.Y. He is also survived by his nieces, Michelle Donaldson Gross (Rick) and Karen Donaldson.
He was predeceased by his sister, Sandra Donaldson, and brother-in-law, Terry Donaldson. He was joyfully met at the Pearly Gates by his precious puppy, Gizmo.
The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.
