Kos, Dorothy B.'s Obituary
Dorothy (Dottie) Kos (Maslek), 98, of Woodsboro, entered eternal rest on March 11, 2026. Born October 23, 1927, in Niagara Falls, New York, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lottie Maslek and sister to the late Edmond Maslek. She was married for over 35 years to the late Chester (Chet) Kos, who preceded her in death on December 14, 1988.
Dorothy and Chet spent the first half of their married life in New York raising their four children. In 1973 they moved their family to Thurmont, Maryland where they remained for the rest of their lives. After marriage, Dottie was a stay-at-home mom devoting her time to raising her children side-by-side with her husband.
After her husband’s death, Dottie kept herself busy, moving her mother in and caring for her for 11 years. She volunteered at the front desk of Frederick Hospital for 25 years where she loved to help and meet new people. Dorothy was an engaged member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Thurmont and supported her church regularly through volunteer work. Dottie had an outgoing and magnetic personality that always attracted new friends. During her life she enjoyed bingo, traveling, reading, socializing, and spending time at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where you could find her relaxing at the pool, engrossed in a book or taking a nap on the screened porch.
Surviving in her immediate family are her four children: James (Kathy) Kos of Michigan; Jacqueline (Jerome) Kelley of Florida; Karen (Randy) Smith of Maryland; and Teresa (Dave) McCleaf of Maryland. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Gregory (Meghan) Kelley; Nicolette (Greg) Heeter; Bradley Smith; Brittany (Bryan) Pescatore; Caitlin (Mike) Murphy; Justina (Rob) Kos; and Shaina (Mark) Lingg and eight great grandchildren (the ninth is on the way!). Dottie will also be fondly remembered by her caregiver Joann Smith. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Joann and all the wonderful Hospice workers that made the last seven months of her life comfortable.
A visitation will be held on March 28, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish center, 103 N. Church St., Thurmont, MD 21788. A Catholic mass will follow in Our Lady of Mount Carmel church from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. A Christian burial will take place at 12:15 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens.
Following the burial, the family extends an invitation for all to join them for a brunch reception from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM also at Resthaven.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation https://www.bcrf.org or to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
