Donald Leroy Gilbert, born on March 13, 1944, in Frederick, Maryland, passed away on January 20, 2026, in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He was 81 years old.
Donald served his country with honor in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during his service. His time in the military remained a meaningful chapter of his life and reflected his dedication and sense of duty.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Judy; daughters, Melonda, Melissa, and Monica; and grandchildren, Kalei and Jake Gary. Donald also leaves behind a large and close‑knit family that includes his siblings Melody, Monica, Martha, Lee, Amy, and Kim. As well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
Donald was preceded in death by his brother, David; and sister, Carolvn.
He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and found great joy in hunting, fishing, and crabbing—activities that brought him peace and a strong connection to nature. He also had a passion for cars and woodworking, pursuits that showcased his skillful hands and creative spirit.
The visitation will be held on January 30, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM in the Catoctin Chapel at Resthaven Frederick. The funeral service will begin at 12:30 PM, followed immediately by the committal service at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
