Don Novey's Obituary
Don Lee Novey of Thurmont, MD passed away peacefully at home, on November 13, 2024 surrounded by family as his favorite band played in the background. He is survived by his wife Jennifer, his children Heather (Brian), Jeremy (Adrienne), Jennifer, Joshua (Leslie), Herna, and Ferna, as well as 11 grandchildren and step grandchildren.
Born on July 10, 1954, Don grew up in Oklahoma, the son of Sylvia Novey. As a boy he cultivated a strong love of music, learning to play saxophone, piano, and guitar. He could play by ear and easily learned to play a variety of instruments without instruction. After walking into a record store as an adolescent and hearing a new band playing, he worked hard and saved up money for weeks in order to buy his first Beatles album. He remained a lifelong fan and would continue to receive joy from their music for the remainder of his life.
After attending a revival as a teen, he became a Christian, following that path as a young adult to become a Methodist minister and eventually earning his doctorate and serving as a pastor across the country for several years before exploring a new path in technology as a network engineer.
His work brought him overseas where he would meet his wife Jennifer and create a loving home for her and his two stepdaughters. Living in Maryland allowed him to spend time near his favorite place, Gettysburg. Don enjoyed deep conversations about religion and politics as much as he loved goofing around and being silly, dancing in the living room and telling dad jokes. His love for his family and zest for life will leave a lasting legacy for all who knew him.
