Derrick Keith Aquino's Obituary
Derrick K. Aquino (Padre) was relieved from his battle with cancer on January 9th, 2023 in his home in Frederick, Maryland. He was at peace and surrounded by his family in his final moments. Derrick was born in September 1958 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to the late Juan De Dios Aquino and Edelmira Duran Aquino.
Derrick is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Christina Aquino, his son Michael Aquino, and brother Edgar Aquino, along with many adored cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his beautiful daughter Katherine ‘Katie’ Aquino.
Derrick grew up in a military family and spent his earlier years living in France and later England. His family moved back to the United States, settling in Connecticut where Derrick attended school and went on to join the United States Army. He spent eight years in active duty, including three years stationed abroad in Germany. Afterwards he joined the U.S Army reserves, retiring with a combined 23 years, as a Chief Warrant Officer ll. Upon is his retirement from the United States Army, he began a 21 year career with the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency. He retired from the NGA in late 2020.
Derrick was a big hearted, fun, loving, and gentle man. He loved his family more than anything but he had many passions and interests in his personal life. He was an immensely talented artist, and he loved to play the guitar. He developed quite the collection over the years! Derrick was a big sports fan and supported his favorite teams, The Patriots, Red Sox and the Boston Bruins. With a splash of love for the local D.C and Maryland teams for his family. Over the last fifteen years, Derrick would spend many weekends with his son for UFC Saturdays and Football Sundays, and these last two years especially with his son and wife together creating memories every weekend. So many special times with the family. Derrick was an avid movie buff and collected all of his favorite films over the years as well as his vinyl collection of all of his favorite music. He loved military history and had a photographic memory that always came in handy! He belonged to the Isaac Walton League and was a member of the American Legion for military veterans. He will overwhelmingly be remembered most for his big heart, and his kind soul. He was truly a cool ass dude

We will be holding a Celebration of Life for our beloved Derrick on Saturday, January 28th at 2:00pm at Resthaven located 9501 Catoctin Mountain Hwy, Frederick Maryland. Our friends, family, and loved ones may arrive between 1:30 and 2:00pm. At approximately 2:45 until 4:00 we will have food and fellowship to honor and celebrate his memory. Flower donations are welcome as well as donation consideration through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the Disabled American Veterans.
