Obituary
Dennis G. Carroll (Denny), retired Geodesist and former Marine, 78, of Clermont, FL, formerly of Frederick, MD entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 14, 2015. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at the St. Katherine Drexel Chapel (8428 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702) from 1-2pm on Saturday April 25th, 2015 followed by a memorial mass. Mr. Carroll was born in Omaha, Nebraska to James and Helen (Murphy) Carroll. He moved frequently throughout the country growing up as the son of an ATF agent in the early post prohibition era. He served in the Marine Corps and attended college on the GI Bill earning undergraduate and graduate degrees from Creighton University and Ohio State University respectively. After college, he had a 33 year career with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) retiring as the Director of Coastal Hazards. He was predeceased by his first wife Monica in 2006. Denny is survived by his wife, JoAnn; his daughter, Tracy Hawkins and husband Christopher of Eldersburg; his sons, Patrick of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; and Michael and wife Janet of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Kyle and Matthew Hawkins and Joseph and Catherine Carroll; two siblings, Patricia Jones of Dallas, Texas and Marilyn Mattingly of Excelsior, Minnesota; and 29 nieces and nephews. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Kairos prison ministry at the Lake County Correctional Institute, c/o Michael Varela, 1002 Ginger Spice Ln., Ocoee, FL 34761 or the March for Life Education and Defense Fund.
