Obituary
Mr. Denmond "Denny" Souris, 85, of Thurmont passed away on May 29, 2017. He was the loving husband of the late Esther L. Souris and the late Peggy J. Souris. He was born on June 11, 1931 in Alexandria, VA to the late Gustave Samuel Souris and Hazel Inez (Leatherland) Souris, and was raised by the late Gladys Beech Souris after Hazel's death. Denny served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952; worked at Washington Gas Light Company where he met his first love Esther; worked for National Geographic as an addressograph machine operator; spent many years with High's Dairy Stores as a district manager; and finished out his working years at Century Ford in Mt. Airy as a salesman. He was a ham radio operator (N3EZT) and loved NASCAR (especially races at Daytona, where he lived for a few years), vacationing at the Outer Banks, his dogs and cats, and cheering on the Washington Nationals. He is survived by his children: Gary L. Souris (Donna); Marsha A. Furtaw (Chris); Chris B. Souris (JoLane); Susan S. Smith; and step-son David Currie. He is also survived by grandchildren Alex Souris (Kerry), Elizabeth Bloom (Eric), Joshua Wright, Michael Smith, Leah Souris, Becky Currie, and (honorary) Cheyenne Gay; great-grandchildren Ian, Lexi, and Kalli; sister Gladys Ann Rowe; godchildren Randy Scourtis and Cathy (Scourtis) Hamilton; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother Gus Souris. A service will be held on Monday, June 5, at 11 am at the Historical Chapel at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway, Frederick. Interment with military honors will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Christus I.
