Darryl Hoyt's Obituary
Darryl Hoyt, 57, of Myersville, MD went home to be with the Lord on September 18, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Ever joyful and optimistic, she left a legacy of faith, courage, and loyalty. She faithfully finished her course (II Timothy 4:7; Philippians 2:16).
She was born June 13, 1968, in Binghamton, NY as the eldest child of Dr. Roger L. Salomon and the late Sandra L. Salomon. During childhood Darryl’s parents’ professions helped to instill in her a love for Christian Education. Her father was a Christian School Administrator as well as a prominent national leader in Christian education, and her mother was a Christian School Teacher; together, the examples they set paved the way for the career path Darryl would take in life. Darryl had a passion for teaching. Even from a young age she would play “school” with her
sisters and act as the role of “teacher.” This innocent childhood play turned into her career path.
Darryl graduated from Pensacola Christian College in 1990 with her bachelor’s degree. In 1991 she married her best friend and husband of the last 33 years, Martin Hoyt. Together, they started their family welcoming their first child in 1992. Darryl and Martin had four more children together and as she was passionate about education, she homeschooled them herself until fall of 2008 when she had them enrolled in Emmanuel Christian School. It was also this school where Darryl worked as a teacher for the past 13 years. Darryl was not only passionate about education,
but she was also driven towards excellence and perfection in both the classroom and in all aspects of life. In addition to Christian School education, and of greater importance to Darryl was her Christian faith and love of the Lord. Darryl was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Temple in Hagerstown, MD and was devoted to church and serving God in various ministries. Darryl was able to combine her love of teaching with ministering at church as she taught a toddler’s Sunday School
class, Vacation Bible School classes, and assisted teaching ESL classes. Additionally, Darryl loved music and used her musical abilities to serve the Lord. She could play the piano, flute, and harmonica, and sang in both special music groups and the church’s choir.
Besides her love of Christ, the church, her family, and teaching Darryl also enjoyed creative pastimes such sewing, crocheting, and writing limericks. She loved to cook and bake; she was especially known for her renowned pies which were always in high demand among the family around the holidays. Additionally, Darryl loved God’s creation from animals to plants. She enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening, taking walks with her family, and hiking.
Darryl was preceded in death by her mother, Sandra L. (Colley) Salomon; her brother, Ryan S. J. Salomon; her cousin, Missy Harvell; and all of her grandparents.
