Daniel A. Russo's Obituary
Daniel A. Russo, 63, of Long Island, New York passed away on February 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with kidney cancer.
Daniel was born on March 8, 1962 to Bennie and Marie Russo in Brooklyn, New York. After graduating from high school in 1980 he then attended Virginia Tech where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting and later became a Certified Public Accountant. He was employed at Ernst & Whinney upon graduation, which later became known as Ernst & Young. He was working in North Carolina during his early years and then was transferred to the Metropolitan DC area where he then started working at Equitable Bank in Wheaton, Maryland. Once Equitable Bank was acquired by BB&T he then went on to work at Sandy Spring Bank in Olney, Maryland. He retired from the banking industry and later became a franchise owner of two restaurants for three years before retiring from the workforce at the age of 50.
Upon being diagnosed with cancer in October of 2023, Dan began to travel and lived life to the fullest. He did more in two years than some people can do in a lifetime. He loved life. He loved people. He loved making others happy and he loved putting smiles on their faces. He was passionate about music, sports and he enjoyed his boating years, even if he wasn't the best captain on the Bay. Most of all, Dan loved spending time with his family and friends and always encouraged everyone to make special memories.
He is survived by his parents, Bennie and
Marie Russo: his sister, Tara; his wife, Bonnie; his daughter, Ashley Eplee (Dustin): his son, Daniel (Kaylyn); his daughter, Lindsey; his daughter, Jaclyn Frierman Dunbar (Connor); his son, David Frierman (Payton); three grandchildren, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
