Obituary
Daniel "Porter" Harrison, 79, passed away on August 24 , 2017, after a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by his family at his home in Braddock Heights, Frederick, MD. He was born in Morristown, Tennessee, the son of George Thomas Harrison and Viola Cameron Harrison, both deceased. He was the beloved husband of Peggy Scott Harrison to whom he was married for 55 years. After high school, he entered the U.S. Navy. He was stationed at San Diego, California; Barber's Point, Hawaii; and Key West, Florida. He received an honorable discharge to enter East Tennessee State College. He later did his graduate work at the University of Maryland. He taught middle school history and English in Baltimore County then moved to Montgomery County where he taught industrial education at Montgomery Blair High School and Seneca Valley High School. Following retirement, he was able to explore some of his many interests. He loved the Washington Redskins, military history books, hunting, nature walks, restoring antique cars, traveling, and spending time with his family. He was a past member of Johnsville Ruritan Club and Camp Kanawha Fish & Game Protective Association. In addition to his wife, Porter is survived by a son, Daniel Scott Harrison and wife Flo; a daughter, Amy Harrison Dudrow; grandson, Daniel Tyler Harrison; granddaughters, Audrey Elizabeth Harrison and Marley Jean Dudrow, all of Frederick. His siblings are Jane Harrison and husband Joe; Richard Harrison and husband Steve; John Harrison and wife Sherry. His sister Rochele Harrison Seberg and brother-in-law Nils Seberg predeceased him. He is also survived by an aunt, Margaret Harrison; two nephews, Eric Harrison and Clint Harrison (wife Kim); plus two great nephews, Kent and Jay, and three great nieces, Ella, Grace, and Jordan. Numerous cousins also survive him. Porter was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend; he will be greatly missed. A visitation will be held Sunday, Aug. 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Resthaven Historical Chapel at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway (Rt. 15), Frederick, Md. The funeral service will be held Monday, Aug. 28 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Interment will immediately follow at the same location. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County in lieu of flowers.
