Daniel J. Groveman's Obituary
Daniel J. “Danny” Groveman, 76, of Silver Spring, Maryland, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 1, 2026, in Mt. Airy, Maryland. He was born April 21, 1949, in Miami, Florida, to Dr. Joseph H. and Helen Yaspan Groveman.
The eldest of four, Danny grew up in Freeport and Hewlett Bay Park, New York, in a close-knit Jewish home. In college he encountered the message of Jesus as Messiah, a truth that took root in his heart and reshaped the course of his life.
Danny fell in love with golf as a teenager and went on to play for the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a B.A. in Sociology in 1971. That same year he met Sandra, the love of his life, and soon after entrusted his life to Jesus Christ, a decision he often described as radical and decisive.
Danny and Sandra married in 1972 and moved to Texas while he studied at Dallas Theological Seminary, later returning to Norman, Oklahoma. Their first child, Alycia, was born in 1976, and over the next decade they welcomed seven children. In 1983 they moved to Silver Spring, Maryland, and planted deep roots there as they raised their family.
Friends and family remember Danny’s quick wit, blunt sense of humor, and complete indifference to impressing anyone. He was a man of integrity: steadfast and deeply devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren, living his faith quietly but firmly in the way he loved and served.
Danny is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra; his seven children, Alycia Ruth (Will) Irish, Israel David (Leah) Groveman, Johannah Katherine (Ruel) Tyer, Judah Benjamin Groveman, Daniel Josiah (Lisa) Groveman, Abraham Levi (Tiffany) Groveman, and Chavia Helene (Phill) Rich; fourteen grandchildren—Jamie Hannah, Taylor Susannah, Alexis Corinne, and William James Irish; Quinn Wallace, Cora Shiloh, and Dakota Flynn Groveman; Lionel Church, Norma Jean, and Willoughby June Groveman; Declan Wyatt, Levi Winston, and Tatum Ruth Groveman; and Elliot Anthony Rich; and his siblings Andrew Groveman, Jonathan Groveman and Jane Groveman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Joseph H. and Helen Yaspan Groveman.
A memorial service celebrating Danny’s life and faith will be held Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home and Cemetery, Frederick, Maryland.
