Chester Kapataes Christie, Jr., age 67, of Frederick, Maryland, died in his home after a long battle with esophageal cancer on the afternoon of Saturday, May 13, 2017, while surrounded by family. Born August 15, 1949, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the only child of the late Chester Kapataes Christie, Sr., and Lillian (Fulmer) Christie.Chester graduated from Thomas Johnson High School in 1968. He began his career in locksmithing in 1971, founding his own business, Able Locksmiths, LLC in 1979. Chester grew his business from a husband-wife team to a successful operation with three full-time technicians supporting his beloved community. Able Locksmiths, LLC will continue as his legacy. Chester was a passionate man with a variety of interests. He was a protege of the renowned bladesmith, Bill Moran, who, as Bill said, "raised him from a pup". He was also a proficient gunsmith, and enjoyed metalworking and tinkering. Chester loved history and enjoyed participating in French & Indian War Reenactments with his family. He was proud of his paternal Greek heritage, his maternal local Frederick County heritage, and most of all, proud to be a deeply patriotic American.He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Barbara Kay Christie and their two children, Christopher and Chelsea Christie of Hagerstown, Maryland, and David and Kateri Fikar of Hagerstown, Maryland. Chester is also survived by his four grandchildren: Lorna Fikar, David Fikar, Penelope Christie, and Caius Christie. He will be thoroughly missed by his numerous friends. There will be a Celebration of Life for Chester K. Christie, held from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the Chapel Mausoleum of Rest Haven Memorial Gardens: 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway, Frederick, MD 21701.
