Obituary
Mr. Charles Lewis Smith, Sr., 80, of Frederick, passed away on May 1, 2016 after a lengthy battle with COPD. He was the husband of Betty Smith of Frederick, his wife of 20 years. Born in Boonsboro, MD, he was the son of the late William and Louise Smith. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and served aboard several ships during the Korean War. He enjoyed bingo, bowling and pool, loved playing softball on teams, and was a member of the AMVETS, the Eagles, and the Redmens Club. In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Smith is survived by two children, Charles L. Smith, Jr., and Audrey Smith Fritz & husband Billy; a stepson, Dwayne Bell; a granddaughter, Chrissy Mullins; three grandsons, Josh Smith, J.R. Fritz, and Wesley Fritz; three stepgrandchildren, Paige Bradds, Skyler Bell and Braycen Bell; one great-grandchild, Amber Leigh Smith, and another great-grandchild "on the way"; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Smith, whom he married on November 12, 1960, and his four sisters and two brothers. A visitation will take place on Friday , May 6th from 7 - 9 PM at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N in Frederick, where a funeral service will take place at 12 Noon on Saturday, May 7th; the Rev. Ross Kirk officiating. Pallbearers will be James Smith, Wesley Fritz, J.R. Fritz, Josh Smith, Brian Smith, and Shawn Aronhalt.
