Mr. Charles W. Bare's Obituary
Charles W. Bare,
Died March 15, 2025, born January 19, 1926 in Frederick, Md. To the late Austin W. Bare and Catherine L. (Speak) Bare. He was the husband of 44 years to Mary Kemp Bare of Frederick, Md. who preceded him in death on February 5, 2015. He is also proceeded in death by Brother Robert Bare and Brother-in-Law Jack Johnson.
He attended Frederick High School but left at the end of the third year, in June (1944) for military service in the U.S. Army. After returning in 1946 from military service in the Philippine Islands where he received the Philippine Liberation, Asiatic Pacific Medals both with (Bronze Star) Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and American Defense Medals. He then returned to school and graduated from the class of 1946-47. After school he worked as Barrack Clerk for Md. State Police in Waldorf, Md. Sept. 1946- Aug 1952; Frederick City Police from Aug. 1952 – Oct. 1961; U>S> Government ECTC, at Ft. Detrick, Md. From Oct. 1961-Jan. 1972; USAG 7th Signal Comd. ASNJ-IM-O-CT, Ft. Richie, Md. Jan. 1972-Jan. 1987 at which time he retired. After retiring he always remained active by working various part time jobs at Antietam Automotive, Hechinger’s, and Office Max. He also worked as a volunteer at the Community Auction House until it’s closing and then in Feb. 2006 he worked for the Frederick Co. Sheriff’s Dept. as a school crossing guard until Jun. of 2011 at which time he resigned and retired to spend more time with his wife Mary and enjoyed collecting memorabilia of Frederick City & County (Manufacturing and business establishments) as well as old stuff and antiques.
He is survived by Sisters Mary Louise Johnson, Sister Harriet Bare and Tim Schneider, Sister-in-Law Mary Glenn Bare, Son Michael L. Bare & wife Ellen of Alvarado, TX.; Daughter,
Jennifer S. Bare of Felton DE.; Son Craig W. Bare of Kalispell, MT.; also surviving him are Grandson James L. McClure & Wife Debra of Frederick, Md., Granddaughter Kathleen Mayhew, of Brunswick, MD. As well as numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews, and very a special friend Bill Groff and family of Jefferson, MD.
He was the longest living member of the Independents Hose Co. at 80 years, The American Legion Post #11, VFW Post 3285, Amvets Post #2, and Moose Lodge #271. He was also a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was also an Honorary member of the Historical Aviation Society.
