Cathy Kedney's Obituary
Our treasured wife, sister, and friend, Catherine Teal (Keaton) Kedney, affectionately known as Cathy or “Cat-Cat”, went home to meet our Heavenly Father on January 24, 2026 at the age of 55 following a prolonged and courageous battle with stage 4 kidney disease and its copious complications.
Cathy was born on March 23, 1970, in Arlington, Virginia to Melvin Lewis Keaton Sr. and Gloria Catherine (Harlow) Keaton; she was the baby sister to Melvin Lewis Keaton Jr. and after 6 years of earnest childhood prayers, became the bona fide proud older sister to Amanda Elizabeth (Keaton) Low.
As a recent resident of Thurmont, Maryland, (she and her husband moved to town in April of 2021), she quickly made her quaint house a warm and welcoming home full of love, laughter, snuggles with her fur-babies, and a lot of baking. In fact, she will always be remembered for her joyful spirit, deep faith, her devotion to her family, a genuine love for people, her banana bread, and the Harlow family Poundcake, which brought joy and deliciousness to many gatherings.
Cathy had a gift for making friends wherever she went, as she was endlessly friendly, always quick with a smile, and she truly cared about others around her. Making friends was effortless for her – she had a special gift for making you feel instantly welcomed and seen.
Her life was deeply rooted in her strong Christian faith in Jesus, and she valued God, family, and friends above all else. She faithfully attended church and Bible studies as her health allowed, drawing strength and comfort in her relationship with the Lord and from the fellowship of those who shared her same values and beliefs. With a tender heart and gentle loving spirit, Cathy quietly witnessed to those around her – sharing the hope and peace she found in Jesus. Even as she herself struggled with an abundance of health challenges, Cathy gave of herself to anyone needing encouragement, or anyone who was searching and hadn’t yet experienced the hope and rest she found in Christ – always sharing the love of Jesus through kind words, a listening ear, and a genuine care.
While Cathy’s favorite season was autumn, she absolutely loved all things Christmas and she had a soft spot for classic films and musicals, things that she and her siblings inherited from their late Mother. And we would be remiss if we didn’t mention her passion project; she founded and enthusiastically moderated a wildly popular Don Johnson fan page. What started as a fun tribute grew into a warm, welcoming online community where fans from all over the world connected and shared their appreciation – classic Cathy, always finding ways to bring people together.
Cathy is survived by her devoted husband of almost 29 years, Sean Joseph Kedney, who was not only her loving and loyal companion, but also her rock, greatest love, and compassionate and long suffering caregiver these last several months, also her two siblings, her sister-in-law, Chris Keaton; her brother-in-law, Charlie Low; and her cherished nieces and nephews: Timothy, Christopher, Benjamin, Jessica, and Nicolas Keaton, and Noel and Holiday Low, for whom her love had no bounds – she poured so much love into each of you, and you were the lights of her life.
She will be profoundly missed by all whose hearts she touched – and there are so many of us!
A Celebration of Life service to honor the amazing woman she was and the impact she had here on earth and that of which she leaves behind, will be held on:
Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Resthaven Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway (Route 15N), Frederick, MD 21701. Visitation with the family will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by the service, which will be live-streamed on her Facebook page, beginning at 11am.
Cathy’s kindness, faith, and joyful presence will live on in our hearts, and her memory will forever be a blessing.
“Don't let your heart be hardened Don't let your love grow cold May it always stay so childlike May it never grow too old Don't let your heart be hardened May you always know the cure Keep it broken before Jesus Keep it thankful, meek and pure.” – Petra 1987
With love from her family,
Kedney, Keaton, and Low
