Catherine Elizabeth Hill's Obituary
Catherine Elizabeth Hill, lovingly known as “Cathy,” peacefully passed away surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on September 1, 1955, at Lethbridge Farm in Brookville, Maryland, one of twelve children born to the late John Bowman Sr. and Rosie Bowman (Leviti).
Cathy was truly the heart of her family—a woman whose kindness, warmth, and gentle spirit touched everyone she encountered. Known for her sweet nature, she lived a life defined by love, compassion, and selflessness. In her younger days, she earned the nickname “Cattail” because of her long, beautiful hair that flowed all the way to the ground, a memory many still cherish with a smile.
She found great joy in caring for others, especially through her cooking. Cathy was known as an exceptional cook whose meals brought comfort and togetherness to those she loved. Her fried potatoes, sausage gravy, Thanksgiving giblet gravy, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and vegetable soup were family favorites that will be remembered for generations.
Every Sunday morning, Cathy could be found listening to her beloved gospel music on WHUR 96.3, starting her day in faith and reflection. Her deep love for her family was the foundation of her life. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who gave of herself endlessly.
Cathy is survived by her children, Gilbert “Larry” Hill (Dawn Hill) and Christine Hill; her grandchildren, Timmy, Kapreya, Miranda, and Darian; and her great-grandchildren, King and Parker. She is also survived by her cherished siblings, Linda, Brenda, Shirley, Evelyn, Cindy, and Eddie.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence Gilbert Hill; her grandson, Larry Hill Jr.; her parents, John Bowman Sr. and Rosie Bowman; and her siblings, Bobo, Herbie, Benny, John II, and Barbara.
Cathy’s legacy of love, generosity, and strength will live on in all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
A burial service will be held at a later date in Sandy Spring, Maryland, where she will be laid to rest alongside her late husband.
