Carol Sue Stockhausen's Obituary
Carol Sue Stockhausen, widow of the late Michael Wayne Stockhausen, passed away on Friday, Sept. 13, 2024, following a short illness. Michael and Carol were wed in 1976 and remained a loving couple for 48 years until his passing on Aug. 2, 2020.
Carol was born in Wheeling, W.Va., on Oct. 5, 1943, graduating from Wheeling High School in 1961. She received her bachelor's degree in education in 1968 from West Liberty State College.
Eager to put her education to work, Carol moved to Carroll County, Md., and eventually settled in Frederick, Md., where she pursued her lifelong passion of teaching. She began as a teaching assistant in Westminster, MD, quickly rising to a full-time teacher when she moved to Frederick and accepted a position at North Frederick Elementary School.
She also worked at Sabillasville Elementary School in northern Frederick County and eventually was tapped to become the founding principal of Monacacy Elementary School -- her crowning professional achievement. Beloved by her students, fellow teachers and education leaders throughout the county, Carol eventually was promoted to a position at the county’s Board of Education.
She retired as a teacher in 2000 and spent the next 20-plus years traveling the world on cruise ships with her husband Michael. In addition to cruising to six of the seven continents, Carol pursued her passion for league bowling, contract bridge, sewing, gardening and flower arranging.
And perhaps her biggest passion was rooting for her Washington Capitals NHL hockey team. She was a 26-year season ticket holder and an enthusiastic member of the Washington Capitals Fan Club. Attending a game with Carol was like being with a local celebrity... everyone knew her and would rush to greet her when they saw her.
Finally, the most important part of Carol’s life was her family. She is survived by her sister, Patty and her husband Denny Pascoe; niece Anne Marie Pascoe and her husband, Scott Heydorn; nephew RD Pascoe and niece Veronica Berisford; and great nephews, Graham Heydorn, Grayson Heydorn and Myles Pascoe. She was preceded in death by her great-nephew, Mason Pascoe.
She also will be missed by her two Jack Russell Terriers, Chloe and Sherlock.
Funeral services will be private for the immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Carol’s name may be made to Kline Hospice House, 7000 Kimmel Road, Mount Airy, MD 21771.
