Mr. Carl Richard McKnight's Obituary
Carl Richard McKnight aged 71, passed away on December 10, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was a beloved father, husband, and friend who will be deeply missed.
Carl was born on November 13, 1952 in Frederick, MD, where he also went through grade school, college, and built his family. He attended Frederick High school and later graduated with a BA in management from Hood College. He was excited by computers and technology and spent 35 years as a dedicated computer engineer with Hughes Network Systems. He loved his work and would tell his daughter, “Do what you love, and it won’t feel like work!”
More than anything, Carl was a devoted husband and father. He was always there to truly listen, support, and encourage no matter the challenge. He gave freely and graciously to his friends and family in need. In his free time, Carl enjoyed his Bernese Mountain dogs, Tony, Ziva, Abby, and McGee, traveling with his wife and close friends, collecting antiques, birdwatching, and tinkering in his barn.
Carl is survived by his loving wife, Mary, his children, Stephanie McKnight and EJ Murphy, Katie Meddings, Eric and Rachelle Friend, and Christopher Friend, and his grandchildren, Cullen, Keeley, Luke, Cormac, Autumn Grace, Addilyn, Kayla, Emily, Brianna, and Natalie, in addition to his sister and brother-in-law Charlene and Gary Snyder. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Mary McKnight and his god-daughter Tara Kanode. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
The family will hold a viewing on Friday, December 15th from 7-9 pm and a funeral service on Saturday, December 16th at 11 AM at Resthaven Funeral Home, located at 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway, Frederick, MD, 21701.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Potomac Valley Bernese Mountain Dog Club Rescue: Maria Crifasi, PVBMDC President, 410 Homewood Circle, Frederick, MD 21702.
