Obituary
Carl Crawford, 85, died on September 15, 2018. He leaves his wife Angela of 62 years. In addition to his wife, Angela, he is survived by one brother, Glenn Crawford of Kingsport TN; two daughters, Robin Crawford of New Windsor; Renee Foreman and husband John of Libertytown. Grandchildren Bryan Nuckols, Brandon Nuckols, Austin Nuckols, Erin Foreman (fiance Zachary Mooney) and Will Foreman; and beloved great grandson Zvi Mackintosh. Born in Kingsport, TN, he was third of ten children born to Sam (Carl) and Bertha Crawford. He leaves many nieces and nephews in the Kingsport area. Carl retired after 22 years of service (1953-1974) as Sgt 1st Class (E8), from the U.S. Army in 197*. He was awarded three Bronze Stars, and served bravely in Thailand (1962), Korea (1968 and Vietnam (1970). In the mid-sixties he enjoyed active military life serving as Platoon Sgt. of the 516th MP Platoon at Ft.. Detrick and Supervisor of the Ft. Detrick Teen Club. After retiring from the Army, he served as a Director of Security for Marriott Hotels and later for the Mayflower Hotel in Washington DC. After retiring from the private sector he spent the following years caring for his property in Boyds, MD. He enjoyed raising beef cattle, plowing snow, helping neighbors and spending many content hours under the sun in the seat of a tractor cutting hay. He loved sharing stories of his life experiences and travels with others and was proud of the life he and Angela created. He and Angela made many happy memories with their grandchildren celebrating holidays, taking ATV rides, sledding and having poolside family cookouts at their home. A small graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 am for family and dear friends, on September 19, 2018 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
