Mr. Bryan Lee Rice's Obituary
Bryan Lee Rice, 86, a beloved resident of Walkersville, MD, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Frederick Health Hospital in Frederick, MD. He was born to the late Edward Bryan Rice, a skilled machinist and gas station operator, and Margaret Clementine Rice (nee Fogel), a dedicated homemaker. Growing up on Park Avenue in Frederick, Bryan was shaped by the post-World War II era. He graduated from Frederick High School in 1955 and enlisted in the US Air Force where he discovered his talent for radio engineering and broadcasting.
After serving in Goose Bay, Canada, Bryan was stationed with the Armed Forces Radio Service as part of their Far East Network in Japan. His time there was filled with adventures as he traveled throughout Asia broadcasting concerts, interviewing celebrities, and delivering live news to military service members in Asia and the Pacific. Upon returning to civilian life in Frederick, he continued his passion for broadcasting as an on-air news presenter at WFMD 930 AM, charming audiences with his distinctive voice. Bryan later pursued further education, earning an associate’s degree in accounting from Strayer College, a field in which he excelled throughout his career.
Bryan is survived by his loving children: Gail Miller of Bel Air, MD, along with her children Addison and Kennedy; Grant A. Rice and his wife Katharine of Bedford, TX, and their children Margaret, Andrew, and Thomas; and step-daughter Dawn Hournbuckle, her husband Wayne, and her children Cameron, Clifton, Cortney, and Corey. He was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Edward Rice.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Saturday, April 13, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home, located at 9501B Catoctin Mountain Highway, Frederick, MD 21701. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM with burial and military honors at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
