Bonnie Jean Kemp Smith Wastler
Surrounded in love from her family, she departed this earthly life to her life everlasting on Monday, January 23rd, 2023. She is now free from her many health challenges and is reunited with her one true love, her loving husband, Franklin T. Wastler who preceded her on August 7, 1979.
She was born on July 19, 1945, to the late Dorothy I. Smith of Frederick and John Howard Kemp. She was the sister of Rodney A. Smith and wife Becky (who preceded her on November 22, 2022) also of Frederick.
Bonnie leaves behind two daughters, Angela M. W. Harris and husband Tony of Frederick, and Melissa W. Line and husband Tim of Hagerstown. She also leaves four beloved grandchildren, Taylor Line, Matthew Line, Colby Line and Alexis Harris. Her grandchildren were her biggest joy who provided her with strength and comfort. Also, special nephew Justin Smith and wife Katie and their children Sofia, Scarlett and Sawyer of Ijamsville. She has a large extended family of in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews that touched her life in many ways also.
She graduated from Frederick High School Class of 1963. She was cherished by several wonderful life-long friends who were blessings to her.
Her work life started at F&M Bank in downtown Frederick after high school until becoming a mother. She worked at Tri-State Hearing Aid Center from 1976-1994. Prior to that she enjoyed being a mother and wife. She was active with Girl Scouts, and a Sunday school teacher at her church Brook Hill United Methodist Church. She was very active and involved with her children’s lives. She was a mom to many when they were in their teen years.
The family would like to thank her many doctors that she has had over the years in managing her health, they were all very special to her and she felt they all cared about her well-being. Thank you to her Hospice Team, they are heroes.

The family will receive friends from 1pm to 2pm on Friday, January 27th, 2023, at Resthaven Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. on the campus of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway (U.S. Rte. 15 North) where a Celebration of her life will begin at 2pm. Interment will be private.
