Obituary
Mrs. Betty Hafer Jacques, 91, of Frederick, MD passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017. She was the wife of the late Richard W. Jacques who predeceased her in 2006 and to whom she had been married for 60 years. Born January 19, 1926, in Chambersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Hazel E. and Glenn H. Hafer. She was of the Methodist faith Betty graduated from Chambersburg High School and then attended the Washington County Hospital School of Nursing where she received her R.N. degree. During her 30 year career as a registered nurse, Betty worked at Frederick Memorial Hospital and for the Department of Defense at the Fort Detrick dispensary. She was a member of the Washington County Nurses Alumni Association. Betty is survived by her four children, Jennifer L. Bennett and husband, Robert; Michael D. Jacques and wife, Mary; Cynthia S. Maria, and Debora A. Wastler; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her brother, Alfred R. Hafer, and a son-in-law, James J. Maria, II. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 5. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Steven Larsen. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
