Beatrice Anne Hemenway Parler's Obituary
Beatrice Anne Hemenway Parler, aged 92, passed away at her home in Frederick, MD on Sunday, December 3, 2023. Anne was born on July 15, 1931 and raised in Steward, IL, daughter of William Merwin and Edith Ranger Hemenway.
Graduating from Northern Illinois University in 1953, Anne travelled west to teach elementary school in California. Anne met her husband Captain William Carlos Parler while on a blind date in Long Beach, California. Anne and Bill married August 13, 1955 in Steward, IL. They lived in many areas of the country and settled in Rockville, Maryland, raising four children. Anne was a Montgomery County Public School Music educator whose focus was special education for deaf and hard of hearing elementary students, teaching music for over 40 years retiring in 1995. Anne was an author of a children’s mystery novel Jan Baer and the Mystery of the Silent Circus.
Anne held many leadership posts during her life. Among these highlights were serving as President of the Lord Baltimore Women’s Club, Ocean View, DE; owner of Sunny Meadows Horse Farm, Ocean View, DE; private voice and piano teacher, Rockville, MD; Contralto soloist Faith Methodist Church, Rockville; Director of handbell choirs; Election Judge, Rockville. Anne was a member of National Education Association (NEA), Montgomery Country Education Association (MCEA) union rep., Music Educators National Conference, Metropolitan Opera Guild, American Guild English Handbell Ringers, Malice Domestic Mystery Writers Conference, American Quarter Horse Association, Illinois State Society, Harvard Law Wives, Red Hat Society, Navy Wives Club, Sigma Sigma Sigma, Sigma Alpha lota.
Anne was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution in Lewes, DE. Her home for many years was Rockville MD. She retired to Sunny Meadows Horse Farm, Ocean View, DE where she lived for 25 years enjoying her family, farm, animals, and the most beautiful sunsets overlooking her pasture.
Anne is survived by her children, William Carlos Parler, Jr., Timonium, MD; Blair Hemenway Parler, (Rebecca) Mount Airy, MD; Bethany Rene Parler, Fort Mill, South Carolina, and Beatrice Carolyn Nutt, (Jeffrey) Hingham, MA; 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and her precious French bulldog Cosette.
Anne was predeceased by her husband Captain William Carlos Parler, Sr., her parents, William Merwin and Edith Ranger Hemenway, her brothers, Lucien William Hemenway and Ranger David Hemenway and her grandson Bradley James Parler.
Anne is remembered for her dazzling smile, sparkling shoes, her lifelong musical talents and her indomitable spirit. Anne will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Services will be held at the Naval Academy Chapel, June 21, 2024 at 10:30 AM followed by interment at the USNA Columbarium where she will be laid to rest with her husband of 66 years, Captain William Carlos Parler, Sr.
