Ave Maria Parnell's Obituary
Obituary
Ave Maria Parnell, 81, a native of Washington, D.C. and a longtime resident of Maryland, died on February 25, 2016 after a brief illness. Born on June 13, 1934 to Earl and Alice Shipman she grew up in Northwest Washington and attended public schools. She graduated from Western High School in 1952, and afterwards married and lived in nearby Virginia. Ave was an avid reader and enjoyed drawing, painting and sculpting, and any and everything about Ireland (she was always planning her next visit). She had a lifelong interest in sports and politics and loved discussing both. Her marriage to C.A. Parnell ended in divorce. Although she had many interests, nothing made her happier than being with her family - her son and daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. Her survivors include her daughters Susan (Seamus) Rice of Walkersville, Cathy (Robert) Hunter of Poolesville, Claudia Parnell of Frederick, Karen Parnell of Frederick, and her son, Steve Parnell of Poolesville; grandchildren Michael (Shannon) Stream, Suzanne (Al) Butler, Mary Catherine Rice, Bobby Hunter, Sean (Alison) Sayers, Chance Minter, Austin Wojochowski, and Garret Zimmerman; great grandchildren, Emma and Evan Stream, and Eleanor Sayers. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 1st at St. Ignatius of Loyola Roman Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Road in Ijamsville, MD. Fr. Michael Jendrek will be the celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
