Austin F. Rickerd "Rick", 83, of Thurmont passed away on December 3, 2018 at FMH. He was the loving husband of Betty L. (Eyler) Rickerd for 58 years. Born February 8, 1935, he was the devoted son of the late Samuel H. Rickerd and Ruth V. Rickerd (Cline). Rick was retired from Moore Business Forms as a Pressman. He was a proud Army Vet who served in South Korea with the ASA as a Staff Sergeant. Fishing, hunting, baseball and softball (especially pitching) were some of his favorite pastimes; especially when it included his kids and grandkids. A member of the class of 1953 of Thurmont High School, he earned his GED in the Army. For many years he sported a beard and moustache and when he shaved it off once, his only granddaughter at the time said, "Pappy shave it back on!"- he never shaved again. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, James B. Rickerd and wife Connie of Thurmont. Daughter, Lynda L. Miller and husband Bob of Woodsboro. Grandchildren; Michael Austin Rickerd and wife Stephanie of PA., Erin Miller Wrenn and husband Hudson of Florida, Bryan Austin Miller of North Carolina and Casey Elizabeth Rickerd of Thurmont. Brothers-in-law; James M. Eyler and wife Judy of Rocky Ridge, Mark A. Eyler and wife Margie of Thurmont and sister-in-law, Darlene Rickerd of Thurmont. And Rickerd, Eyler and Tressler nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Eugene and sister, Edna Tressler and husband Daniel, and in-laws, James R. Eyler, Jr. and wife Mary. A Celebration of Rick's Life with Military Honors, will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 beginning at 11 am at Apples United Church of Christ, 7908 Apples Church Road, Thurmont, MD with Pastor Laura Robeson officiating.
