Angelina Marie Russo's Obituary
Obituary
Angelina Marie Russo, 89, of Thurmont, passed away at home with her family at her side on September 19, 2016. Born in Highland falls, New York, she was the daughter of Sicilian immigrants, Rosina and Michael Palermo, and the wife of her devoted and loving husband of 65 years, Frank J. Russo, Sr. Angie and Frank were married in 1951 at Sacred Heart Church in Highland Falls during Frank's last year of service in the Navy. Frank met Angie for the first time, 5 years prior to their marriage, at a bus stop, where he picked her up to take her to his sister's wedding rehearsal. It was love at first sight. Angie graduated from Ladycliffe Academy in 1948 after a delay in completing her high school education due to ear surgery. Angie and Frank had 4 children: Roseann Russo of Thurmont, Frank Russo, Jr. of Bowie, James Russo of Owings Mills, and Joseph Russo of Frederick. Angie's life centered around caring for her children and husband, which was their good fortune. She nurtured them with her unwavering gentle love and kindness, as well as with her exceptional cooking and ability to have fun and laugh. Angie lived simply, but with deep wisdom and love. She was a devout Catholic committed to treating others with grace. Everyone who met her was touched by her warm, beautiful smile. Despite being unable to speak during her last years, resulting from the dementia that devastated her abilities, Angie continued to communicate the love that was in her heart to her family and to others who knew her. While her body weakened, her spirit only grew stronger. Angie is survived by her husband, four children, her daughters-in-law, Pam, married to Frank, Jr., and Rhonda, married to Joseph; grandson Michael Russo and his mother Karen of Laurel, grandson Eric McGaha and his fiancAC. Tiny Wright of Frederick; sister Sally married to Edward Prah of Highland Falls, NY; sister-in-law Theresa Russo of New Windsor, NY; her best friend Martha Dunn of Highland Falls, NY, and her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Michael Palermo and his wife Lockey, and sister Anna and her husband Al. The family would like to thank the Mustardseed Healthcare Services caregivers, America Blas, Brenda Miller, Candy Smith, and Mamawa and Frederick County Hospice, especially Katie, Brianne, and Karen for their wonderful care of Mom as well as to the Citizen's Rehabilitation and Care Center staff during her admission there in 2013.
