Mary (Ifert) Doody

April 15, 1937 ~ September 4, 2022 (age 85)

Obituary

Our beloved Mother, Mary Ellen Doody, 85 of Frederick, Maryland, departed this life and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 4, 2022.

Born April 15, 1937, in Damascus, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Noah Cornelius and Emily Runkles Ifert.

After Mary raised her children, her first job was at Woolco and then the Board of Education.   After 14 years she retired as Lead Custodian from Liberty Elementary School.

Mary enjoyed traveling and was very proud that she visited all 50 states. She loved taking pictures of birds, flowers, sunrise, sunset and especially her family.  She sang with the Golden Tones and provided devotions and sang for the patients of the Citizen Care and Rehabilitation Center of Frederick.  She was a volunteer for the Central Maryland Youth for Christ for 30+ years and was recognized in 2019 as a Volunteer with Distinction.  She was a longtime active member of the Frederick First Church of the Nazarene.  She went on numerous mission trips with the church such as Cherokee Tribe in South Carolina, Cordova, Alaska and Grenada.

She is survived by her children, Ruth Grimes and husband Floyd of Florida, James Lee Doody, Jr and wife Debra of Frederick, Marlin Doody and wife Ana of California and Joseph Doody and special friend Wendy of Ijamsville; Grandchildren, Brian, Julie, Matthew, Holly, Suzanne, Grace, Melissa, Michelle, Joseph Jr, Heather and Codey; 29 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Great Grandchild; Aunt Betty Ifert and numerous Nieces and Nephews.  Along with her family, Mary was loved by many close friends, work friends and anyone that met her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Doody Sr., daughter-in-law Donna Doody and Stacy Doody, great grandson Christian Doody and grandson James Doody III.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2022 and 9-11 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2022 at Resthaven Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc.  9501-B Catoctin Mtn. Hwy. Frederick, Maryland, 21701 where a celebration of Mary’s life journey will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2022.

Interment will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society or First Church of the Nazarene,7899 Opossumtown Pike Frederick, MD 21702
