Deacon Garland Augustus Brown peacefully went to be with the Lord at the age of ninety-one years on Monday, July 5, 2021 at his Inwood, West Virginia home.
Garland was born November 16, 1929 in Frederick, Maryland to the late Catherine and Curtis Brown.
Garland was a Deacon and sang on the Upper Room Men’s group at Ebenezer Mt. Calvary Holy Church, Summit Point, West Virginia. He was a previous member of First Missionary Baptist Church, Frederick, Maryland where he faithfully served as an Usher for many years.
Garland was a proud member of the Army and served from 1951 to 1959. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sargent.
Garland spent most of his life in Frederick. He was an avid sports fan who watched all sports (football, baseball, tennis, etc.). While soft-spoken about many things, he was an avid Dallas Cowboy football fan. His smile when they were winning, was something to behold. He golfed and was a bowler. One of his greatest thrills was to see Tiger Woods play at a golf tournament.
He worked for many years and retired from the Research Animal Branch of the National Institute of Health (NIH) located in Bethesda, Maryland.
Garland is survived by his wife Janice Price-Brown (they enjoyed 31 years of marriage), his children Timothy (Sheree), Theresa, Wendell, Wayne (Mamie); a stepson Christopher (Melissa); ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister Ella; a Sister-in-law Janet, and a brother-in-law William. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces and nephews, and a very large extended family.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 14th at the Resthaven Funeral Home & Community Center, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Hwy. in Frederick, Maryland where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM on Wednesday. Interment with military honors will follow in the Garden of Memory at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick. Floral tributes are welcome.
