Mr. Edward Allen Smith, 77, of Woodsboro, MD formerly of Laurel, MD, was called into eternal rest on Friday, December 20, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on March 31, 1942 in Woodbine, MD to the late Lloyd and Myrtle Smith.
God blessed Edward with knowledge and understanding to be an excellent handyman who was a jack of all trades. He loved fixing things and he was very meticulous and detailed-oriented. He never stopped until the project was right and finished. Besides his gift, Edward had an avid landscaping business that he worked up until his illness. He had a passion for planting trees, plants, flowers, and taking care of lawns. He loved his job and took pride in his work and his customers were always amazed with the results. Edward loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren dearly. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell stories about the good-ole days.
Besides his parents, Edward was preceded in death by brothers and sisters: Myrtle Ellis, Thelma Smith, Marshall Smith, Lloyd Smith, Howard Smith, and Roy Smith. Also his great-granddaughter Chamille Naomi Smith and nephew Samuel Smith who was like a brother. He is survived by one sister, Virgie Dorsey of Mount Airy, MD, and two brothers Clayman Smith and Christopher Smith, both of Frederick.
He leaves to cherish in his memory: two daughters, Terry Sparrow of Clarksburg, MD, and Kerry Claiborne (Mark) of Hagerstown, MD; two sons, Larry Smith (Katrese), and Jerry Smith (Sharnell) both of Frederick, MD; thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren who all called him “Pappy”; devoted nephew, Basil “Tadpole” Smith of Baltimore, MD, and devoted caregiver Sheri Beall. Special thanks to his hospice nurse Michelle who took care of Edward for a year and thanks to the Kline Hospice House in Mount Airy, MD for their amazing care and help.
A memorial service will be held 10 A.M. Saturday, January 11, 2020 at the Bell Court Senior Apartments Community Building at 645 West Adams Circle, Woodsboro, MD 21798.
