Mrs. Doris Alice McGaha 83 of Frederick, Maryland, peacefully departed from her physical body on May 25, 2021 while in her sleep. Born October 18, 1937 in Hanover, PA., she was the daughter of the late Perry Hartwell Shorb and Edith Irene (Sickle) Shorb, both deceased. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and an avid animal lover; she was especially fond of dogs. She was a loyal friend to many.
Doris attended Frederick High School, where she was a majorette. She worked several jobs in her lifetime, one being at Animal Control in the 1950’s. She saved many dogs and cats lives by going the extra mile to find homes for them, but her main job was housewife and mother. She has a history of ancestors linked to Pennsylvania and norther/central Maryland for centuries.
Doris loved sunbathing, gardening, watching her soap operas, talking to friends on her CB radio, going to dances and drive-in movies, or grabbing burgers & fries and chocolate shakes at "The Snow White Grill" in downtown Frederick or getting the famous “Circle "S" Twist sandwich” at "The Circle “S” car hop restaurant" in Frederick. She also enjoyed eating seafood and going fishing and crabbing with her husband and daughter. When her grandson was born, Doris was a devoted grandmother and watched him during the daytime while her daughter worked, and he also spent many weekends at his grandparents’.
Doris hosted many holiday dinners, turkey dinners being her all-time best and her oyster dressing, baked beans, mashed potatoes, chocolate fudge, and chocolate pie were favorites among many of her dinner guests! She also made a fantastic hog maw, homemade potato chips, peanut butter cookies and pan fried cat fish!
