Joe was a good man.
He was kind, funny, and giving , the kind of person who always put others first. A true family man, he deeply loved his wife, his children, and his grandchildren, and that love was the heart of everything he did.
Joe was also a dedicated federal civil servant at HRSA, bringing the same professionalism, care, and commitment to his work that he brought to his family and friends.
He will be missed by me, my wife, and by so many whose lives he touched. Although we feel the ache of his absence, we find peace knowing he no longer has to physically suffer from the pain that cancer brings. We can all rest assured that he is still with us in spirit watching over us, smiling that familiar smile, and forever in our hearts.
Rest easy, Joe. Thank you for the laughter, the kindness, and the love you gave so freely. You will never be forgotten.
I had many great memories with Uncle Joe, from our Tennessee trips, hanging out at his house in Deep Creek as we would be called crazy for getting into the hot tub even though it was -2 degrees outside and snowing. He was a good teacher to me when I played baseball and now golf as he taught me how to deal with the bunker and I’ll always be thankful for him helping me to be who I am now. He was a good mentor to me as he helped me see the good in people. I will always cherish the moments I had with him and sucks that I can’t make more with him. I’ll miss his jokes and my hot tub friend. Fly high Uncle Joe and you won’t be forgotten.
There are so many great memories and life lessons where I could take up the entire wall space. From skiing at Wisp Mountain, to hiking in WV, and vacationing in Tennessee. From teaching me to shoot a gun to then buying me my own rifle. To letting me drive his “toys” up in Oakland and setting up my own archery range behind his house. To taking me on motorcycle rides around the block, starting my fascination in bikes, leading to me to pursue getting my license. From the very beginning of him introducing me to dog training as a kid when I am now basing my entire career around it. Uncle Joe always encouraged and supported me in what was thought to be unreachable dreams. Every success I have is in his honor🫶. I’ll make you proud Unc!
