Helen Mary Maleady's Obituary
Helen Mary Maleady, of Lake Linganore, MD, passed away on May 22nd, 2026, at Country Meadows Retirement Community in Frederick, Maryland. She was the loving wife of James Nugent Maleady, who passed away April 7, 2023. Born November 14, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, Helen was the daughter of the late William W. Semenuk and Helen Mary Semenuk.
Helen graduated in 1958 from McLean High School in Virginia. She received her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Catholic University, June 10, 1962. She met Jim while attending Catholic University and they were married June 16, 1962. She continued her education later attending Montgomery College and American University. She became a Certified Public Accountant in 1977. Helen was a proud member of the American Society of Women Accountants, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Maryland Association of CPAs. Helen was always an active member of the community, serving as a playground monitor and PTA president of her daughters’ elementary school, coaching girls’ softball in Montgomery Village, and volunteering at the YMCA in Montgomery County and Frederick. She was also an active member of the Gaithersburg Chamber of Commerce and Frederick Rotary, with whom she attended numerous domestic and international conventions. She also enjoyed and cherished the time she spent with her many friends of Bill W.
Helen loved spending time with family, and going to the beach, touring museums, gardening, going to movies, and attending theatrical productions at all levels of venues. She loved going to the movies and spending time with her family. She loved animals and supported a variety of animal advocacy organizations.
Helen is survived by her brother Bill Semenuk & wife Marian, and her sister Cathy Pardee, two daughters, Mary Helen Maleady Dolan and husband Paul, Catherine Ulander & husband Craig; seven grandchildren, Madeleine Dolan, Bridget Dolan, Deirdre Dolan & husband Shawn Verma, and Thomas Dolan, Alisha Ulander, Matthew Ulander & wife Annie, Brian Ulander & wife Lauren; five great-grandchildren, Robert, Levi and Samuel Ulander; Asher and Noah Ulander; a niece Julie Semenuk and nephew Romaldo Semenuk.
She will always be remembered for her love of laughter, life and her family. A celebration of life will take place at a later time at Resthaven Funeral Home & Community Center in Frederick, Maryland.
