Obituary

Christopher Thomas Ganley, 72, departed this life peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, November 10th at the University of Maryland Medical Center after many years of illness. He was born August 12, 1946 in Frederick, Maryland, the son of Paul Bernard Ganley and Marjorie Ann McEwen Ganley.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lugene Erika Becker Ganley, three children, Catherine Elizabeth Ganley, Matthew Christopher Ganley and wife Alexandra Zalles-Ganley, and Colin Michael Walker Ganley and wife Shristy Singh. He is also survived by three grandchildren he adored, Dominic Michael Ganley, Lia Sofia Ganley, and Santiago Xavier Ganley. Four siblings, Joseph Hickman Ganley (Judith), Timothy Bernard Ganley (Judith), Paula Anne Ganley Doing (Clayton), and Dale Alicia Ganley Clabaugh survive him as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Chris attended St. John's grammar school, graduated from Frederick High School in 1964 and from the University of Maryland in 1968. He enlisted in the Air National Guard and became a pilot. With the Air National Guard, he served in West Virginia during the Vietnam War as a medical transport pilot and later, while based in New Hampshire, performed mid-air refueling. He became a commercial pilot and flew for Eastern Airlines, the Trump Shuttle, and US Airways from which he retired in 2006 after a career of 36 years. He also had a part-time career in real estate beginning in his teens, working for his parents' real estate brokerage. As a boy, he delivered newspapers and was an Eagle Scout. He had many friends from his early schooling at St. John's and enjoyed getting together with them frequently. He took great joy in taking care of his lawn and his farm and loved the company of his pets.
The family would like to thank the many medical professionals who cared for Chris over the years as well as Jim Stein of Resthaven. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, December 8th at 11am at Bethel Lutheran Church, 9664 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, 21702.
